National Association Legal Initiative for Local Government (currently National Association Legal Initiative for Open Government) was founded on July 9, 1999 and was officially registered on October 8, 1999. The work of the organization started from the date of its founding with 28 members. The real activity has been unfolding since March 1, 2000, when the first NALILG’s discussion forum was held.
NALIOG aims to realize effective local self-government in the Republic of Bulgaria by improving the legislative environment and dialogue with the central government; increasing the role of local authorities; building the administrative capacity of the public administration for successful participation in programs and projects and transparent and accountable management of public finances; implementation of research in the field of open governance and the fight against corruption, promotion of civil society, protection of human rights, spiritual and material values, healthcare, environment and tourism development.
The association carries out scientific activity and is entered in the register of Scientific Organizations in the Republic of Bulgaria.

To reduce corruption risks and prevention of corruption in the allocation of budgetary resources through public procurement, concessions and other forms of public-private partnership through the introduction of public-legal institutions of real and objective measures of legality, impartiality, transparency, confidentiality, efficiency and effectiveness, professionalism and consistency.

To form proactively, institutional, research and experimental economic development policies.

To support the Bulgarian state in the development and implementation of policies for the provision of changes and improvements in the implementation of the legislation of local self-government

To support the implementation of European legislation in the Republic of Bulgaria, to establishe partnerships with international legal organizations and associations whose activities are related to local self-government
